“And monitored,” Vance added.
“We watched you transfer them to your personal drive, Grant.”
“We watched you package them for the foreign buyers.”
Grant looked at the steel safe, then back at me.
The reality of his situation was settling in.

“You planned this,” Grant said, his voice cracking.
“I did my job,” I said.
“You chose to steal from the government to pay off your mother’s debts.”
Patricia turned her back on her son, staring out the dark window.
She had already abandoned him in her mind.
She was trying to figure out how to save herself.
But Julianne had already closed that door.
“I have the ledger files,” Julianne said again, her voice stronger now.
“I have the offshore routing numbers on my phone.”
She pulled a small silver smartphone from her pocket.
She held it out to me.
“Take it,” Julianne said. “Just tell the prosecutor I helped.”
