Julianne reached out and grabbed my forearm, her fingers ice-cold.
She leaned in close, her breath smelling faintly of mint and fear.
“They think they hid it all,” she whispered.
I kept my eyes locked on her face.
She looked toward the closed double doors of the master study at the end of the hall.
“It is in there,” Julianne said.
“What is in there, Julianne?” I asked.
“The ledger,” she whispered. “And the hard drives.”
Patricia made a low, guttural sound in her throat.
“Shut your mouth, girl,” Patricia hissed.
Julianne flinched, but she did not let go of my arm.
“The foreign accounts are on those drives,” Julianne said, looking directly at me.
“And the military contracts Grant was working on.”
Grant took a step forward, his hands trembling.
“Julianne, you don’t know what you are talking about,” Grant said.
“I know exactly what I am talking about,” Julianne said.
“I helped you wire the retainer to the bank in Zurich.”
She looked at me, her eyes wide and wet.
