“This is egregious,” Arthur muttered. “These expenses were authorized under the guise of plumbing remediation.”

“They are for custom Italian marble and designer lighting for a nursery,” I said.

“My daughter’s nursery.”

“The trust board needs to see this in person,” I added.

“I am inviting you and the directors to the penthouse immediately.”

“We need a physical inspection of the premises to document the damage and the unauthorized alterations.”

“We can review the audited files together in the dining room.”

Arthur did not hesitate.

“I will contact the other board members,” he said.

“We are currently at the downtown office, only ten blocks away.”

“We will be there in fifteen minutes, Catherine.”

“Keep yourself safe until we arrive.”

“Thank you, Arthur,” I said, and disconnected the call.

I kept Margaret on the line.

“They are coming,” I told her.

“The entire board will be here to see what Nathan has done.”

“Good,” Margaret said.

“But Nathan will not let them in without a fight.”

“He still believes he has a right to this space because his name is on the marriage certificate.”
