I looked down at the physical files on my desk, the paper edges sharp and white under the desk lamp.

If Nathan had been embezzling from the trust, it violated the core fiduciary clauses.

The very clauses that kept him in our marriage contract.

My phone rang in my hand, the screen displaying Margaret’s name.

I pressed answer.

“Margaret,” I said before she could speak. “You need to look at the last five pages of that PDF.”

“I’m looking at them right now, Catherine,” Margaret said.

Her voice had lost its usual calm, replaced by a cold, sharp anger.

“This isn’t just a PR stunt,” Margaret whispered.

“No,” I said, my eyes fixed on the screen. “It’s a paper trail.”

“They made a massive mistake including these invoices in the media leak,” she said.

“Do you see the authorization signatures?” I asked.

“I do,” Margaret said. “Nathan used a secondary corporate stamp.”

“He stole from my father’s trust to pay his mistress,” I said.
