“He brought the original medical charts that were altered before Leo was discharged,” the investigator said.

“And the bank accounts?” Lorenzo asked.

“We traced the payments from the offshore account directly to Dr. Halloran’s personal trust,” the investigator replied.

“They match the dates of every adjustment made to the baby’s feeding schedule,” the investigator said.

I looked at Evan.

His face was red from the cold, and he looked exhausted.

“Why did you do it, Julian?” Evan asked, his voice cracking.

“You knew what that formula would do to a newborn,” Evan said.

Halloran didn’t answer.

He kept his head down, his chin pressed against his chest.

The investigators began to lead him toward the idling sedan outside the gate.

“What about Mrs. Bellamy?” I asked, turning to Lorenzo.

Lorenzo looked back toward the dark windows of the mansion.

“She is inside,” Lorenzo said.

“She will tell them everything she knows about the threats to her family,” Lorenzo said.

“She will not be returning to this estate,” he added.

Evan walked over to us, holding out the leather portfolio.

“This contains the original laboratory reports, Hunter,” Evan said to me.
