My stomach turned over. Leo was so weak, so fragile.

Without the temperature-controlled environment and the monitoring equipment, his breathing could stop in minutes.

“We have to stop him,” I said, grabbing Lorenzo’s arm.

Lorenzo looked down at my hand, then back at Mrs. Bellamy.

“You will stay in this chair,” Lorenzo told her, his voice cold as ice. “If you touch that keyboard again, I will have you prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Mrs. Bellamy nodded miserably, her head sinking onto her chest.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I’m so sorry.”

Lorenzo didn’t answer.

He turned and walked out of the office, his strides long and purposeful.

I followed him close behind, the cold air of the hallway hitting us again.

The blue glow of the office faded behind us, plunging us back into the deep shadows of the corridor.

My phone vibrated again in my palm.

The screen lit up, casting a pale white light over my fingers.

I looked down at the new message from the unknown number.

*He is entering the server room now. The door code is 4492.*
