“No,” Vanessa said, her voice trembling.
“I am not going down for his logistics scheme.”
She looked at General Albright.
“I have the original emails,” she said.
“He told me the funds were cleared by the joint task force.”
“He told me the reports were being altered for national security reasons.”
Cole turned to her, his jaw clenching.
“Vanessa, shut your mouth,” Cole hissed.
“Keep your seat, Colonel,” the military police officer behind Cole said, placing a heavy hand on his shoulder.
“I have the signed authorizations,” Vanessa said, ignoring Cole.
“I will cooperate with the prosecution.”
Cole slumped back in his chair.
The defiance seemed to drain out of him, leaving his face hollow.
“The evidence is overwhelming,” the prosecutor said, closing the blue folder.
“Under the authority of the Secretary of the Army, you are both relieved of your duties immediately.”
“Your security clearances are terminated.”
“You will remain in military custody pending your general court-martial.”
The two military police officers stepped forward.
“Please remove your cover and your service insignia, Colonel,” the lead officer said.
Cole stared at the table for a long moment.
