“Not just the financial records, but your father’s signatures.”

“Albright is furious.”

“Is he going to agree to the deal?” I asked.

“I don’t know,” Merritt said.

“He’s in his office right now with the legal counsel.”

“Cole is waiting in the anteroom.”

“We have to stop this,” I said.

“If Cole gets an honorable discharge, the truth will never come out.”

“And my father’s name will still be ruined if Cole ever decides to leak it anyway.”

“There is a senator from the oversight committee inside,” Merritt said.

“Senator Vance.”

“He’s the one who can block the discharge.”

“But he needs proof that Cole altered the later documents.”

“The ones that show Cole took the money after your father died.”

“I have the forensic accounting files on my drive,” I said.

“But they’re in my office at the Maybourne.”

“We don’t have time to go back there,” Merritt said.

He looked at his watch.

“The session starts in five minutes.”
