“Do you think General Albright wants the public to know his predecessor started this?” he asked.
“Do you think the Senate committee wants to admit they funded a rogue operation because your father told them it was a routine surveillance upgrade?”
“They will prosecute you anyway,” I said.
“With what evidence?” he asked.
“Every document that connects me to the money also connects Arthur Vale.”
“If I go down, your father’s legacy goes with me.”
“He’s dead, Cole,” I said, my heart hammering against my ribs.
“His memory isn’t,” Cole said.
“And your family name still means something in this city.”
“Especially to Albright.”
Vanessa stood up from her chair and walked over to Cole’s side.

“He’s offering them a choice,” Vanessa said.
