The Secrets of Cedar Hollow Road and the Price of Family Betrayal
“I didn’t arrest Trevor,” I said. “He broke the law. He forged my name to steal this cabin.”
“He did it for his family,” she pleaded, reaching out to touch my arm. “He wanted to build a future for Kelsey. You have this place, but they had nothing.”
I stepped back, letting her hand fall away.
“They had a house in the city,” I said. “They had a business. They wanted this because they were greedy, and you helped them.”
“We only wanted what was best for everyone,” she said.
“No,” I replied. “You wanted what was best for Kelsey. You never cared what happened to me.”
She stared at me, her expression hardening.
“We are your parents,” she said, her voice cold. “We raised you. We gave you everything.”
“You gave me this cabin because grandfather forced you to,” I said. “And then you spent five years trying to take it back.”
Through the mist, I saw my father sitting in the passenger seat of the sedan, his head down, refusing to look at the porch.
“Go home, Mom,” I said gently.
