He walked over to my mother and placed a hand on her shoulder.

I looked down at the desk, where my copy of the old deed to the cabin lay.
The paper was yellowed at the edges.

I gathered my keys from the table.
As I reached into my purse, my phone began to vibrate against the leather.

I slid my thumb across the glass and pressed it to my ear.
