“Do you have any idea what you’re doing?” he hissed.
“We have already cleared the upper lot.”
“We have grading equipment arriving on Tuesday.”
“Then you should probably call them and cancel,” I said.
He stepped closer, his shadow falling over me.
“I have half a million dollars of other people’s money tied up in this project,” he said.
“If the county pulls the preliminary permit, the bank freezes our line of credit.”
“You should have thought about that before you tried to build an illegal commercial site next to my home,” I said.
He looked down at the folded check in his hand, his fingers crushing the paper.
“I will double it,” he said, his voice tight.

“No,” I said.
