The Secret Ingredient in My Crustless Quiche Recipe Was Survival
I had only uploaded a picture of the finished quiche and a shot of the raw spinach in a glass bowl.
My phone buzzed on the counter beside the laptop.
The sudden vibration made me jump.
The caller ID showed a local number, one I recognized.
I picked it up with a trembling hand and pressed it to my ear.
“Clara?” a voice said.
It was Detective Harris.
“Yes, Detective,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
“I’m just checking in on you,” Harris said.
“I saw you posted a new recipe on your blog.”
“You follow my blog?” I asked.
“I keep an eye on your public accounts,” he said.
“Especially with the restraining order against Julian being so fresh.”
The kitchen felt suddenly cold, despite the warm air blowing from the vents.
“Detective, someone just left a comment on the post,” I said.
“A comment?” he asked.
“Yes, an anonymous account,” I said, my voice rising slightly.
“They mentioned the specific olive oil in my pantry.”
“The one with the red wax seal.”
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line.
