I stood in the corridor, staring at the screen.

The board members had finally seen the ownership files.

They knew Gavin didn’t own sixty percent of the company.

I did.

I walked toward the elevators, my heels clicking on the polished stone floor.

My mind was already moving to the next step.

I had to protect the boys from the fallout that was coming tomorrow.

As the elevator doors slid open, my phone rang.

The caller ID showed an unknown number.

I pressed the phone to my ear.

“Cassandra,” a voice whispered on the other end.

It was Sloane Pierce.

“I need to talk to you,” she said.

Her voice was shaking, the sound of airport announcements echoing in the background.

“Why are you calling me, Sloane?” I asked.

I stepped into the empty elevator cab and pressed the button for the lobby.

“He’s going to ruin us both,” she whispered.

“He has a second set of books, Cassandra. In the safe in his office.”

The elevator began its smooth descent.

“What’s in them?” I asked.

“The real transactions,” she said. “The ones he didn’t even show Philip Dane.”
