Alexander finally turned around from the window.
His face was pale, his eyes hollowed out by the sudden collapse of his future.
“They were helping her,” Alexander said, looking at Rachel. “They were using my family’s name to wash the trust funds.”
“They promised me we would be safe,” Rachel whispered, looking up at him.
“They said once the wedding was over, the money would be fully integrated into the royal accounts.”
“And you believed them,” Alexander said, his voice dripping with quiet disgust.

Two more officers entered the room, carrying pairs of steel handcuffs.
