Dante drew his heavy automatic pistol.
“Gregory, block the rear,” Dante ordered.
I steered Vesper directly into the path of the lead truck.
The driver slammed on the brakes, the headlights illuminating Vesper’s chest.
The truck skidded, its tires hissing in the wet gravel before coming to a dead stop.
Dante’s men moved in like shadows.
They pulled the driver and the passenger out of the cab.
Within two minutes, all three trucks were captured without a single shot being fired.
Gregory opened the back of the first truck.
He shone a flashlight inside and let out a low whistle.
“It’s all here, Boss,” Gregory said. “The entire season’s payroll and the raw product. Kroll is broke.”
Dante rode up beside me, his eyes reflecting the yellow glare of the truck’s headlights.
“You saved my men from the ridge, and you took Kroll’s leverage,” he said.
“It’s not over,” I said, my heart beating fast. “The trucks are here, but the broker isn’t.”
“Sterling,” Dante said.
“He’ll be at his facility,” I said, my grip tightening on the reins.
