Then he looked over at Lydia.
“Ms. Burke,” the judge said, addressing Lydia.
“What is your response to Dr. Aris’s evaluation?”
Lydia stood up slowly.
She adjusted her jacket.
Her face was entirely calm.
“Your Honor, the report from Dr. Aris is a complete fabrication,” Lydia said.
Carter turned his head to look at her, his jaw tightening.
“Mr. Hartwell and his mother have spent the last three months attempting to construct this narrative,” Lydia continued.
“They wanted to paint my client as unstable.”
“They did this to cover up their own actions.”
“What actions are those, Ms. Burke?” Judge Harrison asked.
Lydia reached down into her leather briefcase.

“We have evidence, Your Honor,” Lydia said.
I looked at Carter.
The confident smile on his face began to fade.
His eyes darted to the black binder.
Vivian leaned forward, her hand gripping the edge of the table.
