The Retribution of Evelyn Vale and the Fall of Hartwell House
“There’s something else,” I said.
I looked at the silver tablet on the table.
“I have Sloane’s tablet.”
“And I saw a message on her phone tonight.”
“From Vivian.”
“Vivian?” Lydia asked. “What does Vivian have to do with the design deletion?”
“I don’t think she just helped Carter,” I said.
“I think she brought Sloane here.”
“The message mentioned the ‘Whitaker transition’ and Boston accounts.”
Lydia was quiet for a moment.
“Whitaker is Sloane’s last name,” Lydia said. “But Vivian always claimed Sloane was an independent consultant from New York.”
“Exactly,” I said.
“I think Vivian hired her years ago.”
“I think Sloane was placed in our path on purpose.”
“We need to find out who Sloane Whitaker really is,” I said.
“And we need to find her past associates.”
“I can’t unlock this tablet, Lydia.”
“Can your tech contact in Providence crack it?”
“He can,” Lydia said. “But it will take time, and we don’t have much of it.”
“Bring it to my office tomorrow morning at seven.”
“Don’t let anyone see you.”
“I won’t,” I said.
