I showed the screen to Adrian.

He frowned, his eyes narrowing as he read the words.

“Where is she?” he whispered.

Before I could answer, a loud screech of metal echoed from the warehouse beside us.

A heavy sliding door was being pulled open.

A bright beam of a flashlight cut through the fog, sweeping across the gravel yard directly toward us.

“Hey!” a rough voice shouted from the darkness. “Who’s out there?”

Adrian grabbed my arm and pulled me backward into the shadow of the warehouse door.

But the light had already caught us.

The beam of light was blinding, casting long, distorted shadows of us against the dry-docked hull behind us.

“Stay right there,” the voice called out, closer now.

We heard the rapid crunch of heavy boots on the wet gravel.

Adrian stood his ground, keeping his arm firmly in front of me.

“Who’s asking?” Adrian called back, his tone remarkably steady.

Two men emerged from the thick fog, their silhouettes tall and imposing in the gloom.

Both wore dark, water-resistant jackets and heavy utility boots.
