“She’s going to destroy it,” I whispered.
“No, she won’t,” Leo said, his voice low and dangerous. “Not if I get to her house first.”
“Leo, she has a restraining order against her, but we can’t just break into her place,” I said.
“She has our property, Grace,” Leo said. “She has the evidence we need to finish this.”
The judge dismissed the hearing, but my heart was still hammering against my ribs.
We walked out into the corridor, the air thick with the smell of wet coats.
Josephine and her lawyer were already at the elevators.
Leo watched them go, his hand resting on the car keys in his pocket.
“Go back to the hospital, Grace,” Leo said, turning to me.
“What are you going to do?” I asked.
“I’m going to her house while she’s still at her lawyer’s office,” he said.
“Leo, please be careful,” I said.
He leaned down and kissed my forehead, his lips cold.
“I’ll find it,” he said.
He turned and walked toward the stairs, his boots clicking against the concrete.
