“This is enough for a warrant,” Miller said, looking up. “Actually, it’s enough for twelve.”

“I want them taken down tonight,” Damon said, his tone leaving no room for argument.

“We’re already mobilizing teams in Chicago and Detroit,” Miller replied, picking up his desk phone.

Damon stood up and walked to the narrow window, looking out at the snowy street below.

“I’ve instructed my media team to release the financial audits to the press in ten minutes,” Damon said.

I looked at his back, realizing how cold and calculated he could be when his empire was threatened.

“And Elaine?” I asked, my hands clasped tightly in my lap.

“She’s at her clinic in Chicago,” Miller said, listening to his earpiece. “Our local field office has her surrounded.”

On the wall, a television mounted in the corner was tuned to a national news channel.

A red banner flashed across the bottom of the screen: *Breaking News: Vale Enterprises facing massive fraud investigation.*

Then, a photo of Dr. Elaine Brooks appeared next to the anchor’s head.

“It’s starting,” I whispered.

Damon did not look at the television; his eyes were fixed on me.
