“What did you do?” she whispered, her voice cracking.

“I didn’t call them,” Damon said, his eyes narrowing as he looked toward the windows.

Marcus ran into the room from the side entrance, his face tense.

“Damon,” Marcus said quickly. “We have a problem.”

Before he could finish, the heavy front doors of the facility were kicked open with a loud, echoing crash.

“Federal agents! Nobody move!” a voice boomed from the entrance corridor.

The beams of multiple high-powered flashlights swept into the room, blinding us.

Elaine hesitated for a fraction of a second, then lunged toward the side exit.

“Stop right there!” a voice shouted.

A gunshot echoed through the concrete chamber, the sound deafening in the enclosed space.

A piece of brick chipped off the wall near Elaine’s head, sending dust showering down.

She froze, dropping her gun onto the concrete floor with a metallic clatter.

“Hands where I can see them!” two agents in dark tactical gear shouted, rushing into the room with their weapons raised.

They tackled Elaine to the ground, pinning her arms behind her back.
