Inside were bank transactions, shell company registrations, and wire transfers.

There were also surveillance photos.

But these photos were not of me or Leo.

They were photos of men in expensive suits, entering high-rise buildings in Chicago and New York.

One photo showed a man with a scarred neck shaking hands with a prominent politician.

“This is a syndicate,” I whispered, scanning the names on the documents.

I recognized some of the corporate names.

They were rivals of Vale Enterprises, companies that had mysteriously gone bankrupt over the last three years.

I looked at the transactions.

Billions of dollars had been moved, accounts frozen, assets seized.

“You didn’t just look for me, did you?” I asked, turning my head to look up at Damon.

His jaw was clenched so tightly a muscle twitched in his cheek.

“I had to destroy them, Nora,” he said, his voice barely audible.

“Destroy who?” I asked.

I scrolled down the list of files.

There was a folder labeled *Project Elaine*.

My heart stopped.

“Dr. Elaine Brooks,” I read aloud.

I clicked the folder.

Inside was a medical report, but it was heavily redacted.
