He opened the briefcase and pulled out the wire transfer document with her signature on it.
He slid it across the metal table.
Stephanie looked down at it, her face going pale.
“This is bank fraud,” Vance said. “And grand larceny.”
“I didn’t do anything,” Stephanie stammered. “Derek told me to sign those.”
“That doesn’t matter to the federal government,” Vance said. “Your name is on the account.”
He leaned closer to her.
“Derek is going to prison, Stephanie,” Vance said. “The only question is whether you are going with him.”
Stephanie stared at the paper, her lower lip trembling.
In the dark observation room, I watched her crumble.
