“Moretti’s organization is dismantled,” Dante said. “They have nothing left.”
He put his hand on the small of my back, guiding me toward his private sedan.
The leather seats were warm, and the heater was already running.
I sat in the back, buckling Lily into the safety seat that Dante had already installed there.
Dante slid into the seat beside me.
The driver started the engine, and we glided away from the dark, foggy waterfront.
I looked out the window as the neon lights of the city began to replace the shadows.
“What happens to James?” I asked.
“He will face federal prosecution for financial fraud and conspiracy with Moretti,” Dante said.
“He will go to prison for a very long time,” I said.
“Yes,” Dante said. “He will never be able to come near you or Lily again.”
I let out a breath I felt like I had been holding for months.
My hands were still shaking, so I clasped them tightly in my lap.
Dante reached over and placed his gloved hand over mine.
The leather was warm and solid.
