“It is done,” Miller said. “The indictments have been signed.”

“Paul and Corrado were arrested two hours ago,” he added.

“They are being held without bail at the federal detention center.”

A strange, quiet sensation settled over me.

It was the feeling of safety, something I had not felt in years.

“What happens now?” I asked.

“Now we get you out of New York,” Miller said.

We returned to the safehouse one last time to collect my few belongings.

Vincent was waiting in the living room, standing by the window.

He turned as I entered, his expression softening just a fraction.

“The road is clear now, Lena,” Vincent said.

“An old promise has been kept,” he added, referring to my father.

“Thank you, Vincent,” I said, looking him in the eyes. “For everything.”

He reached into his pocket and handed me a plain white envelope.

“This is from Dr. Hale and myself,” Vincent said. “To help you start over.”

“I cannot accept this,” I said, feeling the weight of the envelope.

“You can, and you will,” Vincent said firmly. “Consider it a debt paid.”
