The Price of Mercy and the Shadow of the Moretti Family
No more running, no more looking over my shoulder in the diner, no more fear of the Moretti name or the Corrado family.
“When can we start?” I asked.
“As soon as the indictments are handed down,” Miller said. “But until then, you stay in Vincent’s safehouse.”
Suddenly, the elevator at the end of the hall chimed, the sound incredibly loud in the empty building.
The digital display above the door began to count up, the red numbers glowing in the dark.
Vincent immediately reached inside his coat, his hand resting on his holster.
Miller stepped back toward his office door, his face turning pale.
The elevator doors began to slide open with a slow, grinding screech.
The metal doors slid all the way back, revealing Dr. Hale.
Two of Vincent’s armed men stood right behind him, their hands hidden inside their dark coats.
Vincent did not lower his gun immediately.
“The perimeter is clear, Boss,” the taller guard said, stepping out first.
Vincent slowly returned his weapon to its holster, his shoulders relaxing just a fraction.
