“I discovered a systemic diversion of funds,” I said, opening my briefcase.
I pulled out the leather-bound ledger and placed it on the wooden desk in front of me.
“These are the original financial records kept by my mother, Margaret Bennett.”
“They detail a parallel banking system used to funnel millions of dollars out of the country.”
Richard’s defense attorney stood up.
“Objection, Your Honor,” the attorney said.
“The defense has not had the opportunity to verify the authenticity of these documents.”
“The prosecution is introducing unverified personal diaries.”
“These are not diaries, Your Honor,” Miller said.
“These are the true corporate ledgers of the foundation, hidden by the defendant for over a decade.”
The judge leaned forward, looking at the book.
“Objection overruled,” the judge said.
“The witness may proceed.”
I opened the ledger to the first marked page.

“The destination account belonged to a shell company registered in Panama.”
