“Can we really get the company?” I asked.

I had helped build Mercer Development from the ground up, working late nights in our tiny apartment when we first started.

Daniel had pushed me out the moment he decided he wanted a new life with Vanessa.

“You were a co-founder, Clara,” Robert said.

“And the funds used to marginalize your share came from the hidden accounts.”

“We will claw back every single share.”

I leaned back in the chair, taking a deep breath of the cool, air-conditioned room.

For the first time in over a year, I felt like I could actually breathe.

“What about Vanessa?” I asked.

“She’s pregnant, and she has nothing left.”

“That is Daniel’s problem, not yours,” Robert said.

“She made her choices.”

He closed the folder with a firm thud.

“Go home, Clara,” he said gently.

“Get some sleep.”

“I’ll see you at the courthouse at nine tomorrow morning.”

I stood up and grabbed my purse.

“Thank you, Robert,” I said.

“Don’t thank me yet,” he said.

“We still have to cross the finish line.”
