“It could be someone he hired,” Robert said. “Or it could be Vanessa. Or his mother. They are all watching their lives collapse because of what you found.”

“What about Patricia?” I asked.

“Patricia is in panic mode,” Robert said. “My sources tell me she is already contacting real estate agents.”

“To sell her home?”

“To sell her investment properties,” Robert said. “Daniel’s legal defense fees are going to be astronomical, and his personal assets are frozen. She is trying to raise cash to keep him out of prison.”

“She would sell everything for him,” I said.

“She is trying,” Robert said. “But Rachel is refusing to help. I spoke to Rachel’s lawyer an hour ago.”

“What did he say?”

“Rachel has officially cut ties with both of them,” Robert said. “She refused to sign the indemnity agreement for the family trust. She told Patricia she wants nothing to do with Daniel’s defense.”

“Good for her,” I whispered.

“It means Daniel is entirely dependent on what Patricia can scrape together,” Robert said. “And if federal prosecutors move forward with the indictment, even those funds might be seized if they can trace them to the development company’s fraud.”
