“The DNA test results just came in.”

“Daniel is not the father.”

There was a brief silence on the line.

“Are you sure?” Robert asked.

“Daniel just called me from his car,” I said.

“He was hysterical.”

“Patricia is pulling her financial support from Mercer Development.”

I heard the sound of papers rustling on Robert’s desk.

“This changes his leverage completely,” Robert said.

“He is desperate now.”

“A desperate man makes mistakes.”

“What’s our next move?” I asked, walking toward my small kitchen table.

“I’m reviewing the bank records we subpoenaed last week,” Robert said.

“There is a gap of four hundred thousand dollars in the construction account.”

“It was transferred to an offshore entity three days before you filed.”

“He was trying to hide it for Vanessa,” I said.

“Yes, but now he has no reason to protect her,” Robert said.

“And he has no way to cover the deficit before the quarterly audit.”

“We need to push for a full deposition of his business partner, Marcus,” I said.

“Marcus knows where every dollar went.”

“I’ll draft the motion today,” Robert said.
