“You came,” Daniel said, setting his glass down.

“I came for my things,” I said, my voice steady.

Michael stood up, adjusting his suit jacket.

“We know why you’re here, Elizabeth.”

“We need to handle this as a family.”

“The family is gone, Michael,” I said.

“Your wife made sure of that when she swung a bottle at my head.”

“She was desperate,” Michael said, his voice dropping to a low, urgent tone.

“She did what she thought she had to do to secure Jason’s future.”

“By committing federal bank fraud?” I asked.

Daniel flinched.

He looked at the floor, his face flushing red.

“You knew,” I said, looking at my brother.

“You knew she forged my signature.”

“I didn’t know until yesterday, Elizabeth,” Daniel said quickly.

“I swear.”

“But you gave her my old email password.”

“She said she needed to find some of Mom’s old tax records,” he said, stepping toward me.

“I didn’t think she’d do this.”

“But now that you know, you’re still helping them cover it up,” I said.

“We are trying to protect everyone,” Michael said, pointing to the green folder.
