Daniel followed him a second later, his head bowed.

I packed up the flash drive and walked out into the hallway.

My hands were shaking slightly, but my chest felt lighter than it had in days.

Mara was waiting for me.

She looked at my face and let out a long breath.

“You’re back in?” she asked.

“I’m back in,” I said.

“But it’s not over.”

“I know,” Mara said.

We walked down the corridor toward the elevators.

“I spoke to Detective Harris while you were in there,” Mara said.

“He was waiting in the lobby.”

“He said the district attorney’s office is reviewing the raw video right now.”

“They are comparing it to the medical reports I submitted.”

“And?” I asked.

“They are upgrading the charges against Patricia,” Mara said.

“They’re moving it from simple misdemeanor battery to felony assault with a deadly weapon.”

“Michael and Daniel could also face charges for tampering with evidence.”

My chest felt tight, a mix of relief and exhaustion.

“They will fight back,” I said.

“They still have the family trust.”

“They can’t bribe a grand jury, Elizabeth,” Mara said.
