“Not the way she edited it,” Daniel said. “She cut the beginning. It looks like you’re the one escalating the fight, pushing her back, while she’s just trying to defend Jason.”

“That is a lie,” I said. “The police will see right through that.”

“She isn’t sending it to the police, Elizabeth,” Daniel said.

I gripped the steering wheel tighter, my knuckles turning white.

“What is she doing with it?” I asked.

“She’s already contacted the local news stations,” Daniel said. “She told them the Chief of Medicine at County General is using her position to cover up family disputes and get her nephew blacklisted from medical schools.”

“They won’t run that,” I said, trying to convince myself. “It’s slander.”

“She has the video, Elizabeth,” Daniel said. “In the media, a video is all they need. You need to call her. You need to tell her you’ll drop the charges and help Jason get into a post-bac program.”

“I’m not doing that,” I said.

“Then God help you,” Daniel said, and the line went dead.

I let the phone fall onto the passenger seat.
