Arthur pulled a thick document from his briefcase.

The title on the front page read *Agreement of Transfer and Voluntary Liquidation*.

“This is the deal,” Arthur said, placing the document in front of Daniel. “You sign over all remaining shares of Carter Development to Emily.”

Daniel stared at the paper as if it were a death warrant.

“That’s my company,” Daniel said, his voice cracking. “I built that.”

“You built it with her money, and then you looted it,” Arthur countered.

“And the assets?” Richard asked, his voice shaking.

“Every asset associated with the company, and every personal asset tied to the fraud, will undergo court-ordered liquidation,” Arthur said.

“That includes the estate,” I added.

Margaret gasped, her hand flying to her throat.

“Our home?” she cried. “You can’t take our home, Emily. We’ve lived there for thirty years.”

“You lived there on my inheritance,” I said, keeping my voice level and quiet.

“Emily, be reasonable,” Daniel begged, reaching across the table toward my hand.

I pulled my hand back before he could touch me.
