Ethan glared at me.

The mask of the loving, successful husband was completely gone.

In its place was a desperate, angry man.

“You did this,” he hissed at me.

“You went through my things.”

“I protected myself, Ethan,” I said calmly.

“You brought this ruin upon yourself.”

Arthur stood up, his tall frame casting a shadow over the table.

“Ethan, the evidence of your financial misconduct is undeniable,” Arthur said.

“We are looking at serious regulatory violations.”

“Arthur, please,” Ethan said, standing up as well. “We can handle this internally.”

“We can restructure the accounts.”

“There is no restructuring this,” Evelyn said.

“The board cannot tolerate this level of liability,” Marcus agreed.

“You have compromised the integrity of the entire firm.”

Ethan looked around the room, searching for an ally.

But there was none.

The board members looked at him with disgust.

I sat perfectly still, my hands clasped in my lap.

“I built this place with you, Arthur,” Ethan pleaded.

“You cannot let her destroy my life over a mistake.”

“This was not a mistake, Ethan,” Arthur said. “This was a calculated series of crimes.”
