I zipped my bag and slung it over my shoulder.
“The money will fund grief counseling, medical care, and legal aid for women who have lost their children and have nowhere else to go,” I said.
“You are leaving me with nothing,” Daniel said, staring at his hands.
“I am leaving you with exactly what you built,” I said.
Clara watched us, her expression neutral, though there was a slight nod of approval in her eyes.
“The federal authorities will be here at eight tomorrow morning, Daniel,” Clara said. “I suggest you call your defense attorney.”
