“We have a warrant for your arrest, Mr. Hayes,” Miller said.

He took a paper document from the black leather folio under his arm.

“On what charges?” Daniel asked.

“Securities fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit market manipulation,” Miller said.

Daniel looked at me.

His blue eyes were cold, filled with a sudden, venomous realization.

“You did this,” he whispered.

“You did this to yourself, Daniel,” I said.

My voice was quiet, but it carried in the empty, high-ceilinged lobby.

His phone began to ring.

The screen lit up with the name of his chief financial officer.

Daniel did not answer it.

He pressed the side button to silence the ringer, but the phone immediately began to vibrate again.

“You need to turn off the device, Mr. Hayes,” Agent Miller said. “It is now federal evidence.”

Daniel ignored him.

He looked at the glass doors, where a small crowd of reporters was already beginning to gather near the police barricades.

“I need to call my attorney,” Daniel said.

“You can make your call from the field office,” Miller said.
