“Your cooperation is the only thing keeping you out of federal prison.”

Vivian took a step backward, toward the exit.

Her eyes shifted toward the dark corners of the warehouse.

She was looking for an escape route, or perhaps waiting for backup.

“You won’t make it to the boardroom,” Vivian said, her voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.

“My father has security detail on every floor of that building.”

“They won’t be looking for Luke,” I said.

“Luke is still the executive vice president.”

“He has access to the master keycards.”

“And he has the support of the lead independent director,” Marco added.

I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead.

My abdomen tightened, a dull ache pulsing through my lower back.

I gasped slightly, pressing my hand firmer against my stomach.

Marco’s eyes darted to me, a flash of concern crossing his rugged face.

“Elena?” he asked.

“I’m fine,” I lied, swallowing hard.

“We need to finish this.”

Vivian noticed my weakness.

A cruel smile touched her lips.

“You look pale, Elena,” she said.

“Are you sure the baby is going to make it through the night?”
