“I just got a text,” I said, my heart hammering against my ribs. “An address in Queens. Four o’clock. It says to come alone if I want the truth about the signature.”

There was a long silence on the other end of the line, broken only by the static of the connection.

“Do not go there, Elena,” Luke said, his tone suddenly fierce. “It’s a trap. It has to be.”

“If Vance is there, he has the proof,” I said. “He’s the only one who can prove I didn’t sign those papers.”

“Marco is handling it,” Luke said. “I am sending him to that exact coordinates now. You stay with the driver. Go straight to the safe house.”

“Luke—”

“Promise me, Elena,” he said, his voice cracking slightly. “I can’t lose you again. Not now.”

“I promise,” I murmured.

But as I hung up the phone, I looked at the address on my screen again.

It was a storage facility near the canal in Long Island City.

“Who was that?” Nadia asked, her hand resting on my knee.
