I felt a dull ache in my chest. “You’re going to leave me to them?”
“No,” Luke said instantly. “Never.”
“But if Arthur strips my access today, we lose the only way to track where your money went.”
“I have to go to the board meeting at three o’clock,” he explained.
“I will sit in that room, look my father in the eye, and tell him I am done searching for you.”
“He won’t believe you,” I said.
“He will if I sign the waiver giving up my personal claim to the trust administration,” Luke said.
I heard another voice in the car. It was Marco.
“Boss, that’s a dangerous move,” Marco said.
“It’s the only move,” Luke replied.
“Arthur expects me to fight him openly. He doesn’t expect me to surrender.”
“While he is celebrating his victory, we hit him where he isn’t looking.”
“The divorce papers,” I whispered, the realization hitting me.
“Exactly,” Luke said. “The documents that stripped your name and your funds.”
“They were authorized by a notary named Donald Vance.”
“Vance has worked for my father for a decade,” Luke said.
