“Why did you turn off the cameras, Vivian?” Luke demanded.
“To keep Father from seeing what I am doing,” she said, her voice trembling slightly.
“And what is it you are doing?” Luke asked, his footsteps heavy as he walked toward her.
“Stalking my ex-wife?”
“I was trying to save your skin, you idiot,” Vivian snapped.
I held my breath, leaning my ear closer to the phone on my pillow.
“Explain,” Luke said, his tone icy.
“Father has been watching Elena for weeks,” Vivian said.
“He knows about the bank accounts, Luke.”
“He knows she has been trying to move her money out of the country.”
“What do you have to do with this?” Luke asked.
“I was at the hospital to get the papers,” Vivian said.
“The forged financial documents.”
“If Father gets his hands on them, he will use them to crush both of you.”
“He will have Elena arrested for fraud, and he will take that child the second it is born.”
My stomach sickened at her words, a cold dread washing over me.
