I felt a chill run down my spine.
“Why?” I asked. “Does she want the papers?”
“I don’t know yet,” Luke said, his voice dropping to a dangerous register.
“But she left in a hurry when she saw Marco’s security team arriving,” he said.
“Where did she go?” I asked.
“She went back to her penthouse,” Luke said.
“Marco has a tail on her,” he added.
“I’m going there, Elena,” Luke said.
I gripped his hand tighter, panic rising in my chest.
“No, Luke,” I said. “It’s a trap.”
“My father is using her,” I added.
“I don’t care,” Luke said, his eyes flashing with a cold fire.
“She knows something,” he said.
“And she is going to tell me exactly what my father is planning,” he added.
“You can’t leave me,” I whispered, tears welling up again.
“Marco is staying here with three of his best men,” Luke said.
“No one gets into this wing without his permission,” he added.
He leaned down and kissed my forehead, his lips lingering for a long moment.
“I will be back before you know it,” he said.
