“Elena,” a soft voice said.

I turned my head slowly on the stiff pillow.

Dr. Avery Bennett was standing by the bedside, holding a digital medical chart.

Her face was lined with worry, but she offered a small, reassuring smile.

“You’re at St. Catherine’s,” Dr. Bennett said.

“The baby?” I managed to ask, my throat incredibly dry.

“The baby is stable, Elena,” she said, placing a gentle, warm hand on my arm.

“Your blood pressure is high, and you are severely dehydrated,” she added.

“But we have you on fluids now,” she said.

I let out a long breath, my shoulders relaxing slightly against the mattress.

“Where is Luke?” I asked, looking around the small, private room.

The blinds were drawn, but the bright city lights still leaked through the plastic slats.

“He’s just outside the door,” Dr. Bennett said.

“He hasn’t left your side since you got here,” she added.

She set the chart down on the bedside table.

“But he is very angry, Elena,” she whispered.

“He and Marco are talking about Vivian,” she added.

I tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness washed over me.
