The Price of a Forgotten Daughter and the Fall of the Valenti Empire
“What is it?” I asked, my heart stopping. “Is Lucia okay?”
“Lucia is fine, she’s with my sister,” Marco said. “But my contact inside the Valenti estate just called.”
“What did they say?” I asked, looking at Dominic.
Dominic stepped closer, his eyes locked on mine.
“Caterina’s primary bank accounts are being emptied,” Marco said. “Millions are being wired to Swiss accounts as we speak.”
“She knows,” I whispered.
“There’s more,” Marco said. “Her private flight plan was just filed at Teterboro Airport.”
“She’s fleeing the country,” I told Dominic, my voice rising.
Dominic grabbed my phone from my hand.
“Marco, what is the departure time?” Dominic demanded.
“Forty-five minutes,” Marco replied over the speaker. “The jet is fueled and on the tarmac.”
Dominic hung up the phone and looked at Vance.
“Your warrants won’t be processed in time to stop her at the gate,” Dominic said.
Vance grabbed his coat. “I’ll call the port authority, but it takes time to coordinate with New Jersey.”
“We don’t have time,” Dominic said, turning toward the door.
“Dominic, wait,” I said, running after him.
