The Price of a Forgotten Daughter and the Fall of the Valenti Empire
I held Lucia tighter, feeling the steady rise and fall of her chest.
Dominic was staring intently at the screen, his eyebrows knitted together.
“I have the internal ledger from the Valenti Foundation,” he said, his voice barely louder than the rain.
“What is that?” I asked.
“It’s the charitable arm of the family business,” Dominic said. “My mother uses it to fund her art projects and her legal defense funds.”
He scrolled down a long list of numbers.
“The foundation accounts are kept separate from the main corporate audits,” he explained.
“Can she see what you’re doing?” I asked.
“She knows I have access,” Dominic said. “But she doesn’t think I know how to read her codes.”
He paused, his finger hovering over the trackpad.
“There is a series of transfers from last month,” he said, his voice dropping an octave.
“How much?” I asked.
“Five hundred thousand dollars,” Dominic said. “Sent to an offshore entity called Blue Horizon Holdings.”
He clicked on another link, his eyes scanning the data.
“The registration for Blue Horizon is registered in the Cayman Islands,” he said.
