The Price of a Forgotten Daughter and the Fall of the Valenti Empire
“I have my own accounts,” Dominic said.
He pulled out his phone again.
“And I have my own name.”
He dialed a number quickly.
“Get me Robert Vance,” Dominic said into the phone.
“I don’t care if he is in court.”
“Pull him out.”
He waited, his eyes fixed on the man in the overcoat.
“Robert,” Dominic said.
“I need an injunction.”
“Now.”
He began walking through the details, his voice clipping each word with surgical precision.
“A temporary restraining order against the state department of child services.”
“The child is Lucia Valenti.”
“My daughter.”
I watched him.
He was using the Valenti name as a shield, the very name I had spent five years running from.
“Yes,” Dominic said.
“Conflict of interest.”
“The petition was filed by Judge Whitmore’s court.”
“I want it transferred to the state supreme court immediately.”
He listened for a moment.
“I will authorize the transfer of the retainer within two minutes,” Dominic said.
“Do it.”
He ended the call and looked at me.
“Vance is the best defense attorney in the state,” Dominic said.
“He doesn’t answer to my mother.”
