“My mother is moving fast,” Dominic said into the phone. “I want her watched. Every car, every meeting.”
He paused, his jaw tightening.
“If she contacts Judge Whitmore, I want to know immediately,” he continued. “He’s the one who handled the sealed custody threats five years ago. He is in her pocket.”
He listened to Marco’s reply for a moment.
“Just do it,” Dominic muttered. “And find Dr. Hale. She’s the key to everything.”
He ended the call and turned, catching me watching him.
“Miriam Hale was at my door last night,” I said, keeping my voice low.
Dominic froze. “What?”
“She was terrified, Dominic. She had a thick manila envelope in her hands.”
He stepped toward me, his eyes burning with sudden intensity.
“Did she give it to you?” he asked.
“No,” I said. “She looked at her phone, panicked, and ran into the rain before I could open the door.”
Dominic swore under his breath.
“Caterina is tracking her,” he said. “Miriam knows what my mother did. She has the proof.”
“The proof of what?” I asked, my voice trembling.
