The judge leaned forward, his eyes dark under the courtroom lights.
He looked at Patricia, then at her defense attorney.
“Does the defense have any response to this new filing?” the judge asked.
Patricia’s lawyer stood up, his face pale under the fluorescent bulbs.
“We request a recess, Your Honor, to review these foreign transaction records,” he said, his voice barely audible.
