Harrison froze.

“What?” he whispered.

“You signed the power of attorney documents in my office,” Patricia said, her voice dropping to a soothing, dangerous purr. “You signed them along with the wedding registry paperwork.”

“I didn’t read them,” he said, his eyes wide with horror. “You told me they were for the catering deposits.”

“You should always read what you sign, darling,” Patricia said.

She reached out and patted his cheek, a gesture so cold it made me shiver in the dark hallway.

“But don’t worry,” she added. “We can handle this. We just need to remove these specific ledger pages from the file.”

She reached for the black folder again.

Harrison didn’t let go.

“No,” he said, pulling it back. “If I destroy this, I’m complicit in the cover-up.”

“You are already complicit,” Patricia said. “Your name is on the accounts.”

I heard a faint, low hum from the kitchen entrance down the hall.

My security system panel was glowing green near the service elevator.

A small text notification blinked on my screen.

It was from Elena.
